Although there were only four active VC partners, as more and more deals flowed in, one partner would have lots of intel on potential investment A, while two others were conducting due diligence on investment B, and the last partner might be advising investment C on a strategic partnership. By the time all four partners found themselves in the same room, they were asking redundant questions because they were not on the same page.

In order to keep partners informed as a team, Yau and I worked to devise a standardized onboarding process in the form of an elegant flowchart (it is for CoCoon’s internal use only, otherwise I’d love to show you). We took a thorough look at how Hong Kong’s VC ecosystem might affect our process, and how quickly partners need to decide whether or not to delve into serious due diligence after a deal comes in.
